About me

Dear Hiring Manager, I already have more than seven years of experience with teaching English for people with all different backgrounds and walks of life. My first time working with teaching English was in a high school in Colombia where I was often presented with classes consisting of more than forty students. For my first time teaching English it was a truly daunting job, but I look back on those times quite fondly as it taught me many skills I use even today. Alongside teaching English I also spent my time there perfecting my Spanish as it was one of my majors that I studied at Rutgers University alongside Journalism & Media Studies. I even attempted to get certified as a translator of the language and took the exam for it at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Unfortunately I missed passing this most difficult exam by a mere two points, but regardless I am grateful that I challenged myself and even got as far as I could in one of the most difficult exams to take in Colombia. Afterwards I decided to spend some time teaching in China at a language center. There instead of working with teenagers I now found myself working with younger children. The experience was, I will admit, a lot less stressful than my experience prior working with 40 students in one class, but it brought about many new experiences with me. Not even the difference in age, but the difference in culture and lifestyle had me adapt to new circumstances. Likewise I had no experience in speaking Chinese whereas prior with Spanish it had not been so difficult. For the first time I had to think outside the box on how to teach these children especially when there was a complete language barrier between us. Despite all this I thoroughly enjoyed it and found my time there all very fun! Starting in 2017 I had been living and working in Novosibirsk at English First Adults. These past years have truly been special not only from my time working at English First, but in my personal life as well as I married the love of my life while here. I met my wife, who is Russian, while we were both working in Colombia. We kept in touch and we decided to get married two years prior. Since I have been here, I have studied diligently and now I am allowed to live in Russia after getting the разрешение на временное проживание (РВП). The process was not easy though as I had to pass an exam on the Russian language, history, and even the laws of the country! I spent many hours each day studying for the exam and gratefully I was able to pass it. It was a very stressful time and I imagine I got a few gray hairs because of it, but I did it. Thanks to my hard efforts I now have obtained the Вид На Жительство (ВНЖ). I then started working at an International School in Kazan named Bala-City. The school which has passed international accreditation by Cambridge University has an intense curriculum for the students. As the 1st and 2nd grade international teacher, I am responsible for teaching math, science, and English to the children in the English language only. Russian is not allowed during the lessons. For the children, especially those in 1st grade, it can be extremely challenging not having lessons in Russian, but I am positive that my teaching here has gotten them accustomed to studying in an international school, and using English on a more daily basis. Currently I work at Istochnik International School in Ulyanovsk. I am the first international staff member the school has ever had and I am glad to bring my experiences to the children here. For many this is the first time they will have received English lessons from someone not Russian, and I plan to not let this opportunity for them go to waste. I hope that my credentials interest you, and that we can be in touch further. I look forward to hearing back from you.
